TELANGANA: The Kaghaznagar municipality has returned a hung verdict, with no single party securing the 16 seats required to form the governing body in the 30 ward civic body.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) emerged as the single largest party with 11 wards. The Congress followed with nine seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won five wards, while four Independents also registered victories.

BJP emerges as potential kingmaker

With five seats, the BJP has emerged as a significant third force. Along with the Independents, it is set to play a decisive role in the formation of the municipal council.

The outcome has opened up the possibility of political negotiations, with both the BRS and the Congress likely to seek the support of the BJP and the Independents to secure power.

It remains to be seen which party the BJP will choose to support to enable the formation of the council.

Sirpur (T) MLA from BJP

The Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency, under which Kaghaznagar falls, is represented by Dr P Harish Babu of the BJP. The party’s position in the municipality could influence the power-sharing arrangements in the civic body.
