HYDERABAD: K. Kavitha on Thursday said she will launch a new political party in the first week of May after identifying an auspicious date.

Addressing a press meet, she said the party’s name will include “Telangana”.

Electoral plans and constituencies

Kavitha said she may contest from any constituency in the upcoming elections. “My first choice is Siddipet and second choice is Bodhan,” she said.

She claimed her outfit will emerge as the main opposition in the state. “There will be no BJP in Telangana,” she said, adding that her party will continue to question the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

She said discussions are under way in 50 committees regarding party structure and strategy.

Alliances and local body polls

Kavitha said her party will contest independently in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections if allotted a separate symbol until then. For Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency elections, she said the party may enter into an alliance with another political party.

She claimed her party is the main opposition in Peddapalli municipality.

On youth, defections and rivals

Kavitha said youth will get priority in her party. She claimed several Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders are in touch with her. “I will reveal who is in touch at the appropriate time,” she said.

Defending Y. S. Sharmila, she said Sharmila is not a failed leader and is currently the state president of a national party. “Why do people not discuss men who floated parties and failed? Why target only women?” she asked.

Referring to Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, she said he had earlier announced plans to launch a party, later joined the BJP and is now speaking again about forming a new party.

Kavitha described Telangana as the “mother board” of her political platform and said the party’s goal is to achieve a “social Telangana”. “We will run the party from the people’s perspective,” she said.
