Jupally Accepts Telangana Debt Debate Challenge

Jupally

HYDERABAD: Minister Jupally Krishna Rao has said he is ready for a public discussion on Telangana’s debt and announced that he would reach Telangana Bhavan at 11 am on Thursday.

Congress, BRS prepare for face-off

Following Jupally’s announcement, BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and T. Harish Rao also said they would reach Telangana Bhavan to participate in the debate.

The BRS alleged that the Congress government was running a campaign blaming the previous BRS government for Telangana’s debt. The party said it was prepared to discuss both the borrowings during the BRS regime and the loans raised by the Congress government over the past two-and-a-half years.

Leaders cite official data

Jupally said he would come with detailed financial figures. In response, BRS leaders said they would present reports of the Union government and data from the Reserve Bank of India to counter the Congress’ claims on state borrowings.

With both sides claiming to possess official records, political interest in the proposed debate has intensified. BRS leaders are expected to gather at Telangana Bhavan in large numbers.

However, there is speculation that Jupally may not attend the meeting because of a scheduled Cabinet meeting. It remains to be seen whether the debate takes place as announced.
