Judge holds inquiry at ambulance in Secunderabad, orders ₹1 crore relief

SECUNDERABAD: A judge conducted an inquiry at an ambulance and ordered an insurance company to pay ₹1 crore to a road accident victim.
The case concerns Japati Deekshit (22), a second-year engineering student from Bachupalli, who was seriously injured in a car accident near Ananthagiri Hills on August 12, 2023. He was travelling with friends in a rented vehicle when it crashed, leaving him with severe head injuries and partial paralysis.
Deekshit’s parents, Japati Venkateshwarlu, a shop assistant in a pesticide store, and his wife Padma, a farm labourer from Venkatapuram village in Mulugu district, borrowed about ₹60 lakh for his treatment in a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Seeking justice, the family filed a case against Go Digit Insurance, demanding ₹1.5 crore compensation. The matter came up before the National Lok Adalat on Saturday.
On learning that the victim was still confined to an ambulance, National Legal Services Authority chairperson and 12th Additional Chief Judge Shaukat Jahan Siddiqui personally went to the spot to record his statement.
After hearing both sides, the judge ordered the insurance company to pay ₹1 crore within one month and deposit the amount directly into the victim’s account. Company representatives agreed to comply with the order.
