Hyderabad House Help Aids Jubilee Hills Murder, Theft

FILMNAGAR: Jubilee Hills police on Friday arrested two persons in connection with the murder of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of former IPS officer Vinay Ranjan, and the theft of gold jewellery from their residence in Prasasan Nagar. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
House help allegedly shared information with gang
According to police, the Ranjan family lives in Prasasan Nagar, Jubilee Hills. Kalpana, a domestic worker from Nepal, had been employed at the house for some time. Police said her boyfriend, Vikas, also from Nepal, allegedly hatched a plan to rob the house.
Vikas allegedly formed a gang comprising Sunil Periyar, Srijan Shahi, Netra Shahi, Dinesh Shahi, Shankar Lama, Ganesh Shahi and Kanchal. Kalpana reportedly informed Vikas that Vinay Ranjan was away from home.
Police said Vikas sent Srijan Shahi and Netra Shahi on May 7 to conduct a recce of the area. After surveying the surroundings, they allegedly informed him that the house was suitable for the planned robbery.
Victim suffocated during robbery attempt
At around 1 am on May 8, three members of the gang allegedly entered the house to steal gold jewellery, while four others stood guard outside.
Police said the intruders gagged Tanuja Ranjan, tied her hands and suffocated her to death. They allegedly fled with her mangalsutra, rings and jewellery stored in cupboards, amounting to about 23 tolas of gold.
Following the crime, the accused reportedly travelled to Nampally railway station and boarded the Telangana Express later that morning. They got down at Kazipet, divided the stolen gold and split into three groups before fleeing to Mumbai.
Two arrested, others still absconding
Police said Sunil Periyar allegedly sold his share of the stolen gold to Dilip Bishwakarma in Mumbai. Jubilee Hills police arrested both men and remanded them on Friday.
Efforts are under way to trace and arrest the remaining accused, who are still on the run.
