Servant theft case: Jubilee Hills police arrest two, recover gold, silver and ₹5 lakh

HYDERABAD: Jubilee Hills police have arrested two persons, including a woman domestic help, in a servant theft case involving 429 grams of gold jewellery stolen from a flat in Jubilee Hills. Police recovered gold ornaments weighing 178.32 grams, silver ornaments weighing 121 grams and ₹5 lakh in cash from the accused.
The theft was reported at Jubilee Hills Police Station on January 21, 2026, after the complainant, a branch manager of State Bank of India, found gold ornaments missing from the master bedroom almirah of her residence on Jubilee Hills Road No. 2.
According to police, there were no signs of forced entry and other valuables were intact, leading investigators to suspect the maid servant. During investigation, police received credible information and apprehended the accused near Sri Krishna Nagar, Yusufguda, on the evening of January 30, 2026, while they were allegedly planning to leave for Visakhapatnam with the stolen property.
The arrested accused were identified as Juttuka Durga Bhavani, 32, and Juttuka Papa Rao, 27, both natives of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh and residents of Yusufguda. Police said the two are relatives and in a relationship, and committed the theft to raise money for their future life together.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the offence. Police said part of the stolen gold was pledged at Attica Gold Company branches in Kukatpally and Punjagutta. Efforts are on to recover the remaining pledged ornaments, including necklaces, chains and pendants.
Apart from jewellery and cash, police traced deposits in two bank accounts. An SBI account with a balance of ₹40,000 has been frozen, while a Bank of Baroda account holding ₹1.58 lakh is yet to be frozen.
The case has been registered as Crime No. 38 of 2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is under way.
Police appealed to residents to verify domestic help through proper police verification, secure valuables and promptly report suspicious activity or missing property to the nearest police station.
