Jubilee Hills police get three-day custody of three accused in Sumanth assault case

HYDERABAD: Jubilee Hills police on Saturday secured three-day custody of three accused in a wrongful confinement and assault case involving Narla Sumanth, former officer on special duty (OSD) to minister Konda Surekha. Police are searching for Sumanth, whom they suspect of masterminding the attack, as reported by DC.
Police question trio over July 30-31 incident
The accused are Bathini Arun Kumar, Pasupuleti Karthik Kumar and Mutyala Mahender Reddy. Police arrested them on August 24 and sent them to judicial custody.
After securing custody, a special police team brought the trio from Chanchalguda Central Prison for a medical examination. The team then took them to Jubilee Hills police station for questioning under Additional DCP K Srikanth.
Investigators are questioning the trio about the events of the intervening night of July 30 and 31, when the alleged attack took place.
Police recreate alleged attack at mediator’s office
Police also took the accused to mediator Ramu’s office in Jubilee Hills to recreate the incident and gather forensic evidence, sources said.
According to police, realtor Harikrishna went to Ramu’s office after the accused lured him there. The accused allegedly cornered, confined and assaulted him.
Investigators suspect Sumanth ordered the attack and was present at the scene.
The case has also led to action against a police official.
Jubilee Hills inspector suspended over alleged lapses
Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar suspended Jubilee Hills station house officer M. Muthu Yadav over alleged negligence and procedural lapses in handling the complaint.
Police said the suspension followed a delay in registering an FIR after the victim approached the station with a complaint. Sumanth remains absconding.
