Election authorities dismiss fake voter ID claims in Jubilee Hills
HYDERABAD: Election authorities have clarified that the voter ID cards seen in certain social media videos alleging the presence of fake or duplicate cards in Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency are mostly old Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) of vertical design issued in previous years.
Officials explained that the Election Commission of India has since adopted a new horizontal-format EPIC card, which is now issued nationwide. “Most cards shown in the visuals appear to be genuine but older versions,” the authorities said.
Case registered for circulation of misleading visuals
Taking note of the circulation of these videos, the authorities said that a case has been registered under Cr. No. 219/2025 at Tolichowki police station to trace the source and intent behind the online posts. The Electoral Registration Officer of 61-Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway.
