Row erupts in Jubilee Hills bypoll over Maganti Sunitha’s affidavit

HYDERABAD: Taraq Pradhumna Kosaraju, son of former Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath and Malini Devi, has accused Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate Maganti Sunitha of furnishing false details in her election affidavit. He urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to reject her nomination papers for alleged perjury.
Complaint to CEO over marital status claim
In his email complaint to the CEO, Pradhumna stated that his father Gopinath’s only legally wedded wife was his mother, Kosaraju Malini Devi, whom he married on April 28, 1998. He added that Gopinath had never divorced Malini Devi, and hence their marriage “continues to persist.”
Pradhumna alleged that Sunitha, who was in a live-in relationship with his father until his death, had submitted “false and fabricated” information in her affidavit, claiming to be Gopinath’s wife. He further said that though Sunitha obtained a family certificate as Gopinath’s wife, the revenue divisional officer (RDO), Rajendranagar, cancelled it after verification.
Dummy candidate’s nomination rejected
Following Pradhumna’s allegations, the BRS fielded P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy as a dummy candidate for the Jubilee Hills bypoll. However, the returning officer accepted Sunitha’s nomination and rejected Vishnuvardhan Reddy’s as it did not include the mandatory B-Form issued by the BRS.
BRS inducts brother of Congress candidate
In a related political move, the BRS on Wednesday inducted Gautam Yadav, brother of Congress candidate V. Naveen Yadav, into the party during nomination filing at the Mandal Revenue Office in Hyderabad.
