Jubilee Hills Bypoll Counting Begins Today At 8am

HYDERABAD: Counting for the Jubilee Hills bypoll began at 8am today, with officials expecting the final result by afternoon. Prohibitory orders are in force around the counting centre and police have stepped up security.

Turnout dips despite high-profile campaign

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. The Congress, BRS and BJP treated the contest as a major political test, deploying senior leaders across the constituency.

Chief minister Revanth Reddy, K T Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, Union minister G Kishan Reddy, state BJP president N Ramchander Rao, Bandi Sanjay, MPs and MLAs participated in the campaign.

Although parties expected a 55–60% turnout, polling closed at 48.42%. Among the 407 polling booths, 34 registered over 60% turnout, while 192 crossed 50%. Parties are closely assessing these booth-level variations to estimate their prospects.

Ten rounds of counting underway

A total of 58 candidates contested the seat. The process began with postal ballots and will be completed in 10 rounds. The Election Commission is uploading round-wise progress on its website.

Section 144 is in place near the counting centre. Around 15 police platoons have been deployed to manage crowds and ensure order.

Congress ahead by 47 votes after Round 1

In the first round, Congress polled 8911 votes, while Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) secured 8864.
Congress moved ahead by 47 votes at the end of this round.

Lead widens to 2,948 votes after Round 2

The second round strengthened the Congress position. Naveen Yadav secured 8963 votes, while BRS recorded 6015.

Across the first two rounds combined, the Congress candidate now holds a 2,948 vote lead.

Lead widens to 5947 votes after Round 3

The Third round strengthened the Congress position. Naveen Yadav secured 11082 votes, while BRS recorded 8083.

Across the previous rounds combined, the Congress candidate now holds a 5947 vote lead.

The fourth round strengthened the Congress position. Naveen Yadav secured 9567 votes, while BRS recorded 6020.

The fifth round strengthened the Congress position. Naveen Yadav secured 12283 votes, while BRS recorded 8983.

The Eight round strengthened the Congress position. Naveen Yadav secured 21495 votes.

Congress candidate Naveen Yadav wins the Jubilee Hills Assembly byelection with a majority of 24,658 votes at the end of Round 10.

congress – 99,120 votes and BRS –  74,462 votes.
