BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy to contest Jubilee Hills bypoll against BRS and Congress rivals in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The stage is set for a triangular contest in the high-profile Jubilee Hills bypoll as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially names Lankala Deepak Reddy as its candidate on Wednesday. While voters will cast ballots on November 11, officials will declare the results on November 14. Three major parties will compete directly in this by-election.

The BJP selects Deepak Reddy for a second consecutive contest in Jubilee Hills. In the 2023 Assembly elections, he received 25,866 votes and finished third with 14.11 percent of the total.

He faces Maganti Sunitha Gopinath of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Naveen Yadav of the Congress party. With formidable contenders from all sides, this prestigious constituency is poised for a keenly watched triangular contest.

Three parties woo voters

This by-election is important for all three parties as they prepare for the 2028 Assembly elections. The BRS aims to demonstrate that it still leads in Hyderabad and retains its supporters. Congress hopes to build on its position as the ruling party and gain more urban voters. The BJP aims to perform better than last time in Jubilee Hills and attract new supporters.

Many are paying close attention, since Jubilee Hills usually supports the BRS, but this time, strong candidates from every party make the result hard to predict. The outcome is expected to offer new insights into how politics in Telangana is changing.
