Election officials book non-local MLAs, MLCs for MCC violation in Jubilee Hills byelection

HYDERABAD: In connection with the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency byelection polling, election officials on Tuesday registered a case against certain non-local Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Officials said the public representatives entered the constituency without prior permission, breaching election norms that restrict the movement of non-local leaders during polling. A case has been registered at the concerned police station following the violation.
Only authorised persons allowed in constituency during polling
Authorities reiterated that only candidates, their authorised agents and local representatives are permitted within constituency limits during polling to ensure a free and fair election. Appropriate action would follow after investigation, officials added.
Congress MLAs seen near booths interacting with voters
Congress MLA Ramachander Naik was reportedly seen moving around a polling booth and interacting with party workers, drawing attention from voters and officials. Witnesses said Naik was speaking to Congress activists and voters near the polling centre, allegedly influencing them.
Similarly, Congress MLA Beerla Ilaiah was spotted sitting near the Rahmatnagar polling station and speaking to voters. Locals alleged that he was trying to lure voters in violation of election rules.
Several voters criticised the presence of unauthorised persons near booths, questioning why “those without polling duties were allowed inside the area”. Although election officials were alerted to the alleged breaches, they reportedly took no immediate action.
Congress accused of flouting poll code in Jubilee Hills
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka allegedly toured the constituency in violation of the Model Code of Conduct, the BRS said. The party claimed that ministers and Congress leaders accompanying him distributed money to voters to influence them.
BRS demands EC action against Congress leaders
According to the BRS press note, Congress workers allegedly attacked residents who questioned the illegal activities. The party criticised the silence of police and election officials, calling it a serious threat to public trust in the electoral process.
The BRS urged the Election Commission to intervene immediately and take stern action against Bhatti Vikramarka and other Congress leaders involved in the violations.
