Jitender Reddy elected President of Telangana Olympic Association

Hyderabad: Jithender Reddy, former Member of Parliament and sports advisor to the Telangana government, has been elected as the President of the Telangana Olympic Association (TOA). The election results were announced on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The TOA elections took place on November 21, 2024, with Jithender Reddy securing 43 votes, while his rival, former cricketer and IPL Governing Council member V. Chamundeswaranath, received only 9 votes. Jithender Reddy won the election by a margin of 34 votes.

The election results had been delayed due to a stay order issued by the city civil court in response to a petition filed by the Boxing Association, which claimed it was barred from participating in the voting process. The court’s stay was lifted on Wednesday, allowing the Returning Officer, Justice (retd) Praveen Kumar, to count the votes.

In addition to the presidential election, P. Malla Reddy was elected as the general secretary, defeating C. Babu Rao by a vote of 40-12. D. Satish Goud was elected treasurer, winning by a similar margin of 40-12 over Pradeep Kumar.

The remaining 23 positions in the Olympic Committee were selected unanimously. The new vice presidents include S. Venugopalachari, Amit Sanghi, E. Sanjeev Reddy, and K. Appa Rao. G. Janardhan Reddy, K. Vijaykumar, Khaja Khan, and G. Umesh were elected as joint secretaries, while 15 others were appointed as executive committee members.

Although the Indian Olympic Association did not send an observer to the election, the Sports Authority of Telangana (SAT) deployed DD Chandra Reddy as its observer for the voting process on November 21, 2024.
