Hyderabad: Jeevan Reddy mulls exit from Congress

HYDERABAD : Former minister and senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy indicated he is considering quitting the party, citing concerns over his political future.
Reddy, a six-time MLA from Jagtial and a Member of Legislative Council, told on Monday that he is reviewing his options. He said several leaders had left the Congress earlier, believing the party lacked a future.
Decision likely around Sri Rama Navami or month-end
He said he stood by the Congress during difficult times and recalled that late leader Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy treated him like a brother. “I have strong reasons to leave. I do not see conditions for continuing in the party,” he said.
However, he added that he has not fixed a timeline for quitting or joining another party. He said a decision may be announced around Sri Rama Navami or by the end of March.
Reddy is holding discussions with supporters in Jagtial district. Meanwhile, speculation is growing that he may resign from the Congress and join the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on March 24 or 25.
Congress leadership attempts outreach amid internal dissent
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud earlier said Uttam Kumar Reddy was tasked with holding talks to persuade Jeevan Reddy to stay.
Despite this, Congress banners near his residence in Jagtial were removed on Monday.
Reddy has expressed dissatisfaction that the party ignored him after his defeat in the last Assembly elections. He also opposed BRS MLA Sanjay Kumar extending support to the Congress.
On Sunday, Medipally Satyam, Karimnagar district Congress president and Choppadandi MLA, met Reddy to persuade him not to leave. However, he reportedly declined.
The possibility of Jeevan Reddy switching parties has now become a key political talking point.
