Jani Master asked to stay away from Janasena Party amid sexual assault charges

Hyderabad: Choreographer Jani Master, also known as Sheikh Jani Basha, has been asked by the Janasena Party to maintain distance following serious allegations of sexual assault. The party leadership made this decision after a case was filed against him at the Rayadurgam Police Station. Effective immediately, Jani Master has been instructed to refrain from participating in any Janasena Party programmes.

The request for Jani Master to distance himself comes in response to a recent complaint filed by a 21-year-old female choreographer. She accuses him of sexually harassing her over an extended period, with incidents allegedly occurring in Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Narsingi Alkapuri Township, and several times at the complainant’s residence.

The Rayadurgam police have registered a zero FIR and transferred the case to the Narsingi police station. The charges against Jani Master include sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC, as well as clauses (2) and (n) of the IPC.

Earlier, In 2019, he was sentenced to six months in jail by a local court in Medchal for assaulting a woman at a college in 2015.

Born Shaik Jani Basha on July 2, 1982, Jani Master is a renowned Indian dance choreographer who works predominantly in Telugu and Tamil cinema, and has also choreographed for Kannada and Hindi films. He is known for his expertise in Western and folk dance styles. He has received several prestigious awards, including a National Film Award, three Filmfare Awards South, and three SIIMA Awards.

Jani Master began his career as a dancer in Telugu films and gained prominence through ETV’s Telugu dance reality show “Dhee.” His choreography includes notable Telugu films such as “Drona” (2009) and “Racha” (2012). He has worked with leading actors such as Ram Charan, Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Pothineni, and Ravi Teja.

In addition to his successful film career, Jani Master entered politics. He officially joined the Jana Sena Party on January 24, 2024, in the presence of party president Pawan Kalyan and has been actively campaigning for the party.
