New twist in sexual assault case: Victim says Jani Master’s wife abused me, Poonam Kaur reacts
Hyderabad: The sexual harassment case against the popular choreographer Jani Master, who real name is Shaik Jani Basha, took a surprising twist when the victim accused the wife of Jani Master in her complaint.
Jani Master is facing allegations of sexual harassment after a 21-year-old woman approached the Rayadurgam police and filed a complaint against him. The woman alleged that the choreographer sexually assaulted her multiple times both on sets and once at a hotel in Mumbai. Following the complaint, the Rayadurgam police filed a ‘Zero’ FIR in this case and transferred the case to the Narsingi police. The case was registered against him under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) as well as clauses (2) and (n) of the IPC.
It has now come to light that the victim has also levelled allegations against Jani Master’s wife who would force her to agree to her husband’s demands. She would abuse and beat me if I refused his sexual advances, the complainant added.
Unable to bear the harassment, I quit the job of an assistant choreographer and was doing some work. This enraged both Jani Master and his wife and they came to my house and vandalized the furniture and other household items, the complainant further alleged.
Meanwhile, the Tollywood’s outspoken actress Poonam Kaur has commented on the sexual harassment case involving Jani Master and his wife. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Poonam Kaur said people should stop calling him Jani ‘Master’ as the ‘Master’ title commands certain respect. She suggested that he should be called accused ‘shaik jani’.

Jani Master had recently ventured into politics. He officially joined the Jana Sena Party on January 24, 2024, in the presence of party president Pawan Kalyan. Meanwhile, the party leadership has told Jani Master to maintain distance following serious allegations of sexual assault against him.
It has been earlier reported that Jani Master has a previous criminal record. In 2019, he was sentenced to six months in jail by a local court in Medchal for assaulting a woman at a college in 2015.
Born Shaik Jani Basha on July 2, 1982, Jani Master is a prominent Indian dance choreographer who predominantly works in Telugu and Tamil cinema. He has also choreographed for Kannada and Hindi films.
Jani Master is known for his expertise in Western and folk dance styles and has won a National Film Award, three Filmfare Awards South, and three SIIMA Awards.
He began his career as a dancer in Telugu films and on ETV’s Telugu dance reality show “Dhee.” His choreography includes Telugu films such as “Drona” (2009) and “Racha” (2012).
He has worked with prominent actors like Ram Charan, Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Pothineni, and Ravi Teja. Jani Master has also sung a song dedicated to Ram Charan.
