Lizard in midday meal makes five students ill in Jangaon

JANGAON: Five students of Pochnnapet Primary School in Bachannapet mandal fell ill on Wednesday after reportedly consuming sambar that had a dead lizard in it.
According to officials, about 154 students are enrolled in the school. Lunch was served around noon, and students ate the mid-day meal before dispersing for the day. While cleaning the utensils later, staff found a dead lizard at the bottom of the sambar vessel.
The cooks immediately informed the headmaster, who alerted the mandal education officer and district collector. The collector directed medical, revenue, and panchayat raj officials to rush to the school.
Doctors examined all the students and found five suffering from stomach pain. Medicines were administered, and the students were kept under observation for two days. District medical and health officer Mallikarjun Rao visited the school and reviewed the situation.
Officials said two ambulances have been stationed in the village for emergencies. Tahsildar Ramanujachari, MPDO Mamata Bai, and Cheriyal Market Committee chairperson Nalla Nagula Shweta Venkanna also inspected the school and gathered details.
