Jana Sena throws weight behind BJP in Jubilee Hills bypoll

HYDERABAD: Ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election, the Jana Sena Party has announced its full support for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy.
The announcement came after a meeting between Jana Sena’s Telangana state president, Shankar Goud, and senior BJP leaders, including state president N. Ramchander Rao and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, at the Sagar Society in Hyderabad on Monday.
The BJP, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP) contested the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh together, securing a large majority.
This alliance unites the opposition against the ruling Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), setting the stage for a fierce showdown in the high-profile constituency. With the by-election slated for November 11, the contest has erupted into a battleground of passionate campaigns and heated protests over unemployment and fee reimbursement.
“The Jana Sena Party leaders will participate in the election campaign in support of the BJP candidate,” read a statement from Telangana BJP. The logistical details of the campaign, including the potential participation of the star-politician Pawan Kalyan himself, are expected to be unveiled at a joint press conference scheduled for Wednesday.
The BJP, which is seeking to strengthen its foothold in Telangana, will benefit significantly from Jana Sena’s grassroots network and campaign machinery. The alliance aims to present a united front to sway voters in the politically significant Jubilee Hills constituency.
The by-election has already been in the spotlight due to the entry of protest candidates from various groups, including unemployed students and farmers opposing the Pharmacity project, whose nominations were subsequently rejected. With this new alliance, the BJP-Jana Sena combine hopes to emerge as a formidable force, turning the contest into a direct battle against the established parties.
