HYDERABAD: Jagtial MLA Sanjay Kumar got relief on Monday after Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar dismissed a disqualification petition filed against him.

Speaker cites lack of proof

The petition was filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Jagadish Reddy, seeking Sanjay Kumar’s disqualification on the grounds of defection. Delivering the order, the Speaker said there was no sufficient evidence to establish that Sanjay Kumar had changed parties.

With this ruling, the Speaker has dismissed disqualification petitions against eight MLAs. Hearings on petitions against Kadiyam Srihari and Danam Nagender were adjourned to February 19.

‘I am a BRS MLA’: Sanjay

Reacting to the order, Sanjay Kumar said he continued to be a BRS MLA. “₹5,000 is deducted every month from my salary and paid to the BRS. I have submitted an affidavit stating that I am a BRS MLA,” he said.

Opposition reaction

Commenting on the developments, MLA Vivekanand Goud said Kadiyam Srihari’s claim of working for the Congress while remaining in the BRS was “laughable”. He alleged that Srihari had admitted before the Speaker that he had joined the Congress and accused him of misleading the public to delay proceedings. Goud added that the Speaker had given a clean chit to eight MLAs citing lack of evidence.
