Jagtial man killed in Malta road accident, four months after wedding
HYDERABAD: A 27-year-old man from Jagtial was killed in a road accident in Malta on Tuesday, barely four months after his marriage, TOI reported.
Mohammed Abdul Jawad, a resident of Islam Pura in Jagtial district, had moved to Malta three months ago for work. He had initially taken up a job as a sales executive.
Family members in Jagtial said they had received limited information about the accident. According to local reports cited by TOI, Jawad was driving a small commercial vehicle when it collided with a trailer in Qormi around 11.45 am.
Jawad became trapped inside the vehicle and died on the spot. The trailer was reportedly being driven by a 39-year-old man from Tarxien.
“The family is devastated and still in a state of shock. We don’t even know what exactly happened,” Jawad’s sister told TOI over the telephone from Jagtial.
“All we were told by his friends about the accident is that a truck and trailer collided and my brother died on the spot,” she said.
According to his sister, Jawad had completed his graduation earlier this year and was looking for a job. He had searched for work locally for about six months before leaving for Malta.
Jawad’s wife is still a student pursuing a BEd.
The family said it was unclear why Jawad had been driving a commercial vehicle when he had travelled to Malta for a sales assistant’s job.
“I got to know that he had started driving a truck a few days ago. We don’t exactly know why,” his brother-in-law MA Rashad said.
Rashad said the family had contacted Jawad’s employer through friends. The employer assured them that Jawad’s mortal remains would be sent back to India.
“We are waiting for the formalities to be completed and hoping it will be sent from either tonight (Wednesday) or tomorrow (Thursday) morning,” Rashad said.
The family has also submitted a petition through Pravasi Prajavani to the Telangana government, seeking assistance with repatriating Jawad’s body.
“Since we are facing financial difficulties, I request the government to extend necessary assistance so that we can perform his last rites here with dignity,” Jawad’s father Mohammed Abdul Mujahid said.
Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala also urged the authorities concerned to intervene and expedite the release and repatriation of Jawad’s body.
Jawad is survived by his wife, parents and two siblings.
