Telangana : An eight-year-old boy died on Monday after prolonged illness following a dog bite incident that occurred 15 months ago.

Maniteja, son of Manchikatla Srinivas and Madhavi from Kotilingala village in Velgatoor mandal of Jagtial district, had been undergoing treatment since December 2024. The family includes a younger daughter. Srinivas works as a software employee in Hyderabad.

Dog bite triggers prolonged medical complications

The family had visited their native village for a relative’s wedding. On December 26, 2024, Maniteja was playing with other children when a dog bit him between the left side of his neck and shoulder. He was immediately taken to a hospital and given vaccination.

After returning home during Sankranti holidays, the boy developed a sudden fever. He was first taken to a hospital in Jagtial, where his condition worsened with breathing difficulty.

Parents spend over ₹50 lakh on treatment

He was shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad for advanced care. Doctors said a nerve connecting the spine to the brain had been affected. Since then, the child remained on ventilator support.

The parents said they spent over ₹50 lakh on treatment in an attempt to save his life.
