Jagadgirigutta lake cleared of encroachments by Hydraa

HYDERABAD: A temple tank in Jagadgirigutta regained its original form after authorities removed encroachments and cleared accumulated debris on Tuesday.
The action follows a viral video in which Govindarajula Swamy temple priest Narahari appealed for protection of the tank, alleging illegal occupation. Hydraa Commissioner A V Ranganath had inspected the site and assured action.

Officials removed about 26 truckloads of construction waste and garbage from the tank. Nearly one acre of the waterbody had been filled with soil and used for parking.
The drive halted further attempts to encroach on the tank. Authorities have also initiated restoration work.
Temple priest recalls decades-long struggle
Local residents and devotees welcomed the move and praised Hydraa for acting against encroachments.
“After a 22-year struggle, this has finally happened. I feared I might not see the tank restored in my lifetime,” Narahari said. “Now, through Hydraa, it feels like divine intervention has protected the tank. I thank the government and officials.”
Jagadgirigutta houses several temples, including Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, Hanuman temple, Govindarajula Swamy temple, Pochamma temple, Sri Vasavi Kanyakaparameswari temple, Sri Nalla Pochamma temple, Shiva temple, Parashurama temple and Ayyappa Swamy temple.
Calling the restoration a positive development, the priest said rainwater flowing from the hill would refill the tank. “We will ensure it remains filled, even by using borewells if required,” he added.
