Income Tax Department says no extension for ITR filing

Hyderabad: The Income Tax Department on Monday clarified that the deadline for filing income tax returns will not be extended.
The department urged taxpayers not to believe reports suggesting that the filing date has been postponed. It also requested that such unverified information should not be circulated or published. “Taxpayers should rely only on official updates issued by the Income Tax Department,” it said in a statement.
Deadline ends today
For the assessment year 2024–25, the last date to file income tax returns without penalty is September 15. The department advised taxpayers who have not yet filed their returns to do so by the end of the day.
Over six crore returns filed
According to the department, more than 6 crore taxpayers have already filed their returns for the year.
