Hyderabad shooter Esha Singh wins silver at ISSF World Cup 2025

Hyderabad: The city-based shooter Esha Singh produced an impressive performance to win a silver medal in the women’s 25m pistol event at the ongoing ISSF World Cup 2025 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She faced tough competition from Sun Yujie of China. The Indian shooter registered two hits to finish the contest at 35, while Sun had 38 shots on target.

With Esha’s silver, India has so far won gold, a silver and a bronze medal in the ISSF World Cup 2025. Earlier, the shooter from Faridkot, Sift Kaur Samra won the gold in the women’s 50m rifle three-position event while Asian Games medallist shooter Chain Singh opened India’s medal account at the competition by clinching bronze in the men’s event.

Air Pistol Mixed Team world champion Esha’s shot was 294 in rapid-fire giving her a total of 579, just enough to ensure two Indians in the final. She came into her own from the third series, a round of four hits moving her up to joint fourth from seventh.

The Hyderabad shooter shot superbly in the fifth, sixth and seventh series to surge to sole second, just one behind Sun.

With seniors like Tien Chia-Chen of Chinese Taipei, Doreen Vennekamp of Germany and Manu Bhaker not performing well, the competition was between Sun and Esha and the former finished stronger to claim a deserving gold.

Paris Olympics double medallist Manu Bhaker finished sixth eventually. She was fourth overnight, returned a fine 294 in the second rapid-fire round to qualify in third spot, with a total of 585. Hungarian Veronika Major, who piped Manu to a third medal at the Paris Olympics, topped with 587.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy congratulated Esha Singh for bagging a silver medal in the 25m Women’s Pistol event at the World Cup 2025. In his message, the Chief Minister said Esha has made Telangana proud with her achievement in women’s shooting.
