IRCTC clarifies misinformation on e-ticket booking rules amid social media rumors
Hyderabad: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) clarified on Tuesday, June 25th, that rumors circulating on social media about restrictions on booking e-tickets due to different surnames are false and misleading.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) requested that people refrain from spreading such misinformation. It is clarified that tickets from the IRCTC site are being booked as per Railway Board Guidelines, and the required information is available in the public domain as follows:
1. You can book tickets for friends, family, and relatives using your personal user ID.
2. The booking limit is 12 tickets per month. For Aadhaar-authenticated users, this limit increases to 24 monthly tickets, provided one passenger on the ticket is also Aadhaar-authenticated.
3. Tickets booked using personal User IDs are strictly for personal use, and selling them commercially is an offense under Section 143 of the Railways Act, 1989.

Several Twitter users expressed relief upon the clarification and requested that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) take action against those spreading misinformation.
