IPL 2025 Auction: SRH picks Mohammed Shami for 10 crore
Hyderabad: Senior pacer Mohammed Shami was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for 10 crores during the IPL 2025 Auction in Jeddah city of Saudi Arabia on Sunday. SRH had earlier shown its interest in buying Rishabh Pant and Arshdeep Singh.
Initially, Kolkata Knight Riders made an unsuccessful bid to buy Shami. Later, Chennai Super Kings joined the bidding war and the bid was increased to 8.25 crores and the Chennai team decided to drop out.
For Hyderabad, Shami is the first pick in the IPL 2025 Auction. Shami missed the last season due to knee surgery. Earlier, he was part of the Gujarat Titans squad. Following the full recovery, the senior pacer returned to the world of competitive cricket by playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.
Notably, the Hyderabad team has retained Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head prior to the kickstart of the marquee set. The rentions include three overseas players and two Indian young cricketers who have displayed all-round performance in the team’s show in 2024.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen became the most expensive retained player (for 23 crore) in the history of IPL. Previously, Virat Kohli was the highest-ever retained player. He has been retained at a value of 21 crores.
