Hyderabad malls under scrutiny: Police launch spy camera inspections for women safety
Hyderabad : The Hyderabad City Police launched a new programme with an aim to make Hyderabad Malls safe to women. As a part of this programme, the Hyderabad police would inspect female strategic spaces in the malls to find out the presence of any secret cameras.
This programme was launched on the occasion of Independence day on August 15 by the Hyderabad City Police, in collaboration with the Department of Education and NSS (National Service Scheme) students, initiated a drive to check for secret or hidden cameras, particularly in shopping malls.
As a part of these inpsections, a team of female professional experts will inspect female changing rooms, washrooms, and toilets for hidden cameras. If no such cameras are found, the location will be declared safe and secure. These inspections would be conducted periodically and randomly in both large and small shopping areas. Even after a location is certified as safe, it may still be subject to checks on the same day.
All malls would be inspected
It is said that this effort aims to create a safer and more secure environment for women and children. As part of the program, teams will conduct inspections in all shops and malls. NSS students who participate in the program will receive credits in their hour bank accounts.
In an official statement, the police said, “While celebrating the spirit of freedom and equality and reaffirming our commitment to creating a safe and empowering environment for all citizens, especially women, the program was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, Kothakota Srinivasa Reddy, IPS, and Burra Venkatesham, Principal Secretary, Education Department, along with NSS volunteers.”
Further, Burra Venkatesham, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Education Department, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the role of educational institutions in spreading awareness about such critical issues.
The event was further made interesting by a flash mob and dance performances engaging the audience, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and safety. It was further said that these inspections would continue until all malls and shops are inspected and declared safe from spy cameras.
