Infocus – 2026 National Film Festival celebrates student filmmaking

Hyderabad: The Department of B.A. Mass Communication organised Infocus – 2026: National Film Festival on February 25 and 26, showcasing student creativity and technical skills in filmmaking.
The two-day event began with a prayer song and lighting of the lamp. The inauguration was led by Principal Rev. Fr. Dr. N. B. Babu, SJ, along with Vice Principal Rev. Fr. B. Peter, Lay Vice Principal Dr. Anitha Mary, IQAC Coordinator Dr. K. Rama, Dean of Academics Dr. Suchitra Naidu, Dean of Arts & Humanities Dr. Swaralipi Nandi, and Head of the Department of Mass Communication D. Elsita.
Day 1 focuses on acting and cinematography
On the first day, actor Akhil Raj Uddamarri, known for his role in the Telugu film Raju Weds Rambai, interacted with students. He spoke about his journey into the film industry, the challenges faced by newcomers, and the importance of perseverance and auditions.
He answered students’ questions on acting techniques and career opportunities in cinema.
Cinematographer AJ Aaron, an alumnus of the department and a postgraduate from the Film and Television Institute of India, also addressed the gathering. He shared his professional experience in cinematography and explained aspects such as framing, lighting and visual storytelling.
Students sought guidance on higher studies and practical filmmaking skills during the interactive session.
Day 2 highlights direction and voice work
On the second day, director Sai Marthand, known for directing Little Hearts, spoke about the process of becoming a filmmaker. He highlighted the importance of creativity, script understanding, leadership and teamwork in sustaining a career in cinema.
Venkata Sai Swetha, a voice-over and dubbing artist, radio jockey and digital storyteller, shared insights into voice modulation, dubbing techniques and digital storytelling platforms. Her session encouraged students to explore careers in broadcasting and media.
Competitions and screenings draw participation
The festival featured competitions including Poster Making, Caricature, Meme, Dress the Drama, Trailer Master, What If, Documentary, Public Service Announcement (PSA) and Short Film.
Students from various colleges and universities participated in the offline competitions, making the event an intercollegiate platform for creative exchange.
Selected entries under Short Film, Documentary, PSA, What If and Trailer Master were screened before a live audience and industry guests.
The festival concluded with a valedictory ceremony and prize distribution. Students from Arts & Humanities actively took part in the event.
Faculty members of B.A. Mass Communication D. Elsita, Josephin Bharathi Vege, P. Vikram Kumar, Rajeshwari, A. Himabindu and Tejasvi attended the festival and congratulated the winners.
Infocus – 2026 provided students with an opportunity to interact with industry professionals and gain practical exposure in filmmaking.
