HYDERABAD: The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, will mark its Foundation Day with the launch of three new ocean information services, the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with partner institutions, and the unveiling of a redesigned bilingual logo.

The new services JellyAIIP, SAMUDRA 2.0 mobile app, and SIVAS are designed to strengthen the country’s coastal and ocean information network.

Three new ocean information platforms

JellyAIIP (Jellyfish Aggregation Information Interactive Portal) is a national web-based platform for reporting and visualising jellyfish aggregation, swarming, and stranding events along the Indian coast. It offers geospatial mapping, hotspot analysis, and multilingual first-aid guidance.

SAMUDRA 2.0 is an upgraded multilingual advisory mobile application providing ocean information and early warnings to fishermen and maritime users. The app includes expanded services such as Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) and tuna advisories, as well as alerts for small vessels, with enhanced map-based features.

SIVAS (Swell-Surge Inundation Vulnerability Advisory System) is an early warning system for swell-surge flooding events. It is currently operational along the Kerala coast and issues multilingual forecast bulletins for coastal communities.

Strategic collaborations and bilingual identity

During the programme, INCOIS will sign MoUs with the Space Applications Centre (SAC), the International Centre for Climate and Society (ICCS), and the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India (ALEAP). These partnerships will promote research, data applications, technology development, and capacity building in ocean and climate services.

As part of its celebrations, INCOIS will also unveil its redesigned bilingual logo, aligning with the Official Language Policy of the Government of India.

International collaboration to follow

Following the Foundation Day, the Weather and Climate Science for Service Partnership (WCSSP India) annual science review meeting will be held in conjunction with the event. The meeting will see participation from 23 delegates from the United Kingdom, around 80 Indian delegates, and additional participants joining online.
