HYDERABAD: Cybercrime officials in Hyderabad on Sunday arrested Immadi Ravi, the alleged operator of the iBomma piracy website. He was taken into custody in Kukatpally after he landed in Hyderabad from France on Saturday.

Police said Ravi had been running the iBomma platform while living in the Caribbean islands. New movie releases frequently appeared on the site within minutes of theatrical shows, affecting box office revenues.

Producers complain of OTT piracy

Film producers recently filed complaints alleging that content on major streaming platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, JioCinema and Aha  was being pirated and uploaded to iBomma within minutes of release.

Hyderabad police increased surveillance following these complaints and tracked Ravi’s travel to the city. Officers said he was picked up based on specific information.

Police to present him before media

Officials indicated that Ravi may be produced before the media on Monday.
