Hyderabad man files complaint against Chenoy Trade Center for illegal parking fee collection
Secunderabad: A Hyderabad resident has filed a complaint against the Chenoy Trade Center (CTC) in Secunderabad for illegally collecting parking fees on Thursday.
Dev Raj @dev_raju took to social media platform ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter to express his frustration, tagging the Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) department’s Central Enforcement Cell (CEC).
In his post, Dev Raj stated that he filed a complaint against CTC through WhatsApp to the EV&DM’s CEC. He accused CTC of being “repeat offenders,” highlighting that even after informing the parking attendant of his intention to file a complaint, the attendant demanded a fee of Rs. 20 (initially asking for Rs. 40).
While speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Dev Raj elaborated on the incident. He explained that he parked his bike at the CTC, a shopping mall, for over an hour while shopping. His purchases amounted to nearly Rs. 6,000. Despite showing his shopping bill as proof, the parking attendant insisted on collecting a fee.
Dev Raj said that customers who spend a certain amount at the mall should be exempt from parking fees. Additionally, he said that the first 30 minutes of parking should be free for all customers, regardless of purchases.
Disappointed that past challans and fines have not deterred the practice, Raj concluded his statement by saying, “I filed a complaint against the CTC parking personnel via WhatsApp to the Central Enforcement Cell. I await their response and necessary action.”
GHMC Fined CTC Earlier
This is not the first time CTC has been penalized for illegal parking fees. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) previously fined Chenoy Trade Center (CTC) Secunderabad Rs. 50,000 for a similar offense.
In that case, a customer named Umesh Kumar complained that parking personnel at CTC Secunderabad persisted in collecting fees, disregarding his attempts to present shopping bills.
This not only dismissed his valid proof of purchase but also violated the Telangana government’s designated “Policy on Parking,” as outlined in G.O.Ms No. 63 dated March 20, 2018.
The government’s parking policy aims to address various parking-related issues and regulate the collection of parking fees in Hyderabad and other urban areas of Telangana. GHMC levied the fine upon observing CTC’s misuse of parking common areas in their commercial building, a violation of sections 24 & 28 of the Telangana Apartments Act & Rules, 1987.
