Kapra: Officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana raided an illegal medical shop in Malkaram, Church Colony, Jawahar Nagar Village, Kapra Mandal, on September 26, 2024. Danthuri Shiva Kumar operated the shop Sri Vigneswara Medical and General Stores without a valid drug license.

DCA officials seized a stock of medicines valued at approximately Rs. 30,000 during the operation. They discovered the unauthorised stocking of a substantial quantity of various medications, including 36 different types of antibiotics, steroids, anti-ulcer medications, and analgesics.

Drugs Inspectors T. Shiva Teja, E. Thirupathi, and K. Murali Krishna carried out the raid. Samples of the seized medicines have been sent for analysis, and further investigations are underway. In accordance with the law, action will be taken against all offenders.

The DCA highlighted that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed entities are also subject to penalties under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. They are reminded to ensure that any recipient of medicines holds a valid drug license.

Operating without a drug license is a serious offense, punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with a potential imprisonment of up to five years.

In a separate raid on September 26 and 27, the DCA also raided clinics operated by unqualified practitioners in several locations in Telangana, including Mahabubnagar Town, Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, Gungal Village, Korutla Town, Jewla Village, and Sathyanarayanapuram Village. These operations resulted in the seizure of illegally stocked drugs valued at Rs. 3.45 lakhs.

The following individuals and locations were identified as:

Khadar Pasha of Ganesh Nagar, Mahabubnagar Town, Mahabubnagar District was found with 53 varieties of medicines, which include two varieties of physician’s samples and one expired drug.

Arun Kumar Das runs the Balaji Doctor Clinic at Uday Nagar, Road No. 11, Banjara Hills, and it was found to have 50 varieties of stocked medicines.

Bathula Laxmaiah of Gungal Village, Yacharam Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, was found to have 24 varieties of medicines and 20 varieties of physician’s samples.

A. Srikanth was discovered with 40 varieties of medicines in Korutla Town, Jagtial District.

Bakkolla Ramaswamy Goud from Jewla (b) Village, Tanoor Mandal, Nirmal District, was found in possession of 21 different types of medicines.

Janagam Satheesh of Sathyanarayanapuram Village, Cherla Mandal, Bhadradri-Kothagudem District, has stocked 29 varieties of medicines.

The DCA urged the public to report any suspicious drug manufacturing activities or illegal sales of medicines. Complaints can be lodged through the DCA Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days.
