HYDERABAD: Mailardevpally police raided an illegally operating hookah centre in Vatepally in the early hours of March 22, 2026, and detained 10 persons for questioning.

Acting on credible information, police conducted the raid at around 02.30 IST. Officials said the establishment was functioning without valid permissions or licences required to run a hookah parlour.

The accused, identified as Mohd Tanweer, 23, was found operating the hookah facility. Police seized equipment and related materials from the premises.

Seized items include hookah pots, flavours, coals and pipes

The seized articles comprised three large hookah pots, nine small hookah pots, flavour packets, two boxes of coals, 12 hookah pipes and one smartphone.

Police registered a case under Section 20(2) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act and Section 280 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Necessary legal action is being initiated against those responsible for running the illegal centre.

Enforcement drives to continue against unauthorised hookah centres

Police said operating hookah centres without authorisation violates the law and attracts strict action. Officials added that regular checks and enforcement drives will continue to curb such unlawful activities.
