DCA Seizes Illegally Manufactured Ferin-XT Tablets

Malkajgiri: Telangana’s Drugs Control Administration (DCA) officials conducted raids on September 25 and 26, seizing Ferin-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid, and zinc Tablets) at a medical shop in Malkajgiri. The tablets were found to be falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of food products or nutraceuticals.

The officials from the Quthbullapur Zone of the DCA discovered that Ferin-XT Tablets were being marketed, despite being classified as a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. They were illegally produced at Twins Pharma, located at Plot No. 106, S.V. Nagar, Mallapur, Hyderabad, under a food license issued by FSSAI.

According to the regulations, the manufacturing of Ferin-XT Tablets requires a valid drug license issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, along with compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as specified in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. Furthermore, these products must meet the quality standards outlined in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).

The raids, carried out by Drugs Inspector K. Murali Krishna and Drugs Inspector T. Shiva Teja, led to the seizure of the drugs, and samples were collected for analysis.

Illegally manufactured and sold products that are falsely labelled as food items pose significant health risks to consumers and may not meet the necessary quality standards. Violations related to the manufacturing and sale of drugs without a valid drug license can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to five years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious manufacturing activities related to drugs, including narcotics and psychotropic substances, as well as any other illegal activities concerning medicines. Complaints can be made to the Drugs Control Administration through the Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days.
