HYDERABAD: Police and excise officials, accompanied by Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, raided three illegal belt shops in Madhapur after residents of Gokul Plots Colony complained about the unauthorised sale of liquor in the area.

Residents said they had lodged several complaints earlier, but the illegal liquor trade continued without interruption.

During the operation, authorities identified three outlets allegedly involved in the illegal sale of liquor. Two persons found running the establishments were detained and handed over to police and excise officials for further action. Another individual reportedly escaped from the spot.

Speaking to residents after the raids, Gandhi assured them that authorities would continue taking action against belt shops and other activities affecting public welfare.

Residents, particularly women from the colony, welcomed the operation and expressed satisfaction over the action taken by the authorities.
