IIT Hyderabad startup pioneers affordable AI-powered oral health screening

Oralvis Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.

HYDERABAD: To bridge India’s oral healthcare gap, OralVis HealthCare Pvt. Ltd., a startup from the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H), is on a mission to transform how India tackles oral health. Their homegrown advanced screening ecosystem promises to make early dental disease detection both accessible and practical, shining a light on hidden cases of dental caries, gum disease, and oral mucosal disorders that too often slip through the cracks.

The founders saw a clear problem that most clinics depend solely on visual checks, a process that is slow, subjective, and rarely educates patients about prevention. “Oral health conditions such as dental caries, gum disease, and oral mucosal disorders often go undetected until they reach advanced stages. The challenge is not just lack of awareness, but the absence of simple, objective, and scalable screening tools in everyday dental practice,” explained Debashish Saha one of the founder adding that oral health problems touch millions, yet clinics lack easy, objective, and scalable ways to screen for them.Your Paragraph Text (33)

OralVis addresses this problem with a powerful combination of state-of-the-art hardware and a smart digital platform. At its heart is an affordable intraoral camera that harnesses autofluorescence imaging, using the natural glow of teeth and tissues to uncover early signs of disease that would otherwise remain hidden. Each condition creates its own unique fluorescence pattern, giving dentists a vivid tool to diagnose and explain issues to patients.

“Beyond just seeing a problem, we are building a complete ecosystem where hardware, software, AI-driven analysis, and patient-dentist connectivity work together,” the founders said. The platform stores images automatically and creates structured reports in minutes. These reports can be added to a clinic’s management software, which helps reduce paperwork and improve follow-up care.Your Paragraph Text (32)

Designed for Indian clinic workflows, the system supports quick screenings, even in waiting areas, allowing higher patient throughput without disrupting daily operations. The focus on affordability and usability is central to OralVis’s mission of democratizing early oral health screening.

The startup has gained early validation and support through government and innovation grants and is collaborating with clinical partners to test its technology in real-world settings. Pilot programmes are planned across clinics to facilitate earlier detection, improve patient acceptance of treatment, and drive better oral health outcomes.
