IIIT Hyderabad Launches Second Edition of Online MSc in Data Science

HYDERABAD: The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has launched the second edition of its fully online Master of Science in Data Science (MSc. DS) program. Delivered by the Division of Flexible Learning (DFL), this UGC-approved degree connects rigorous academic training with the needs of working professionals and remote learners.

This two-year program, with up to four years allowed for completion, combines strong theoretical foundations with practical applications. It prepares graduates for high-demand roles in data science through a flexible, fully online format with no campus attendance required.

A key feature of the program is its inclusive admission policy. The Online MSc. Data Science does not require an entrance examination, enabling applicants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds to apply. The focus is on potential and commitment, not test scores.

Prof. Venkatesh Choppella, Associate Dean of the Division of Flexible Learning at IIIT Hyderabad, highlighted the program’s mission. “This program has been launched as a response to the growing demand for accessible, high-quality education in data science,” he said. “Our goal is to equip learners with the skills to excel in one of the fastest-growing sectors globally, without the barriers of location or rigid scheduling.”

Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla, Director of IIIT-H, emphasized the program’s credibility and reach. “IIIT Hyderabad’s UGC-approved Master’s degree program in Data Science will enable students from all over India, as well as anywhere in the world, to get skilled in Data Science and be effective in the field, either in research or in their jobs,” he stated. “This program will provide equivalent standing as any other Master’s degree program to those who complete it.”

Developed by IIIT-H’s faculty, the curriculum covers machine learning, statistical analysis, big data technologies, and data visualization. The program helps professionals upskill or reskill without interrupting their careers, allowing advanced education to fit into busy schedules.

Applications for the April 2026 cohort are now open and will close on 12 February 2026. There is no application fee. Classes begin on 6 April 2026.
