IIIT Hyderabad graduate protests with 30-minute headstand over Dharani portal issue in Ranga Reddy district

IIIT Hyderabad graduate protest

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old graduate from IIIT Hyderabad and a postgraduate from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, named U Jeevan, staged a 30-minute headstand, known as Seershasana, protest at the Ibrahimpatnam mandal office in Ranga Reddy District, Telangana on Wednesday, August 21. U Jeevan protested to demand action on his family’s long-standing land issue related to the Dharani portal.

According to reports, Jeevan’s mother, Ulinthala Jayasudha, has been trying for over three years to have her 1.32-acre land in Mangalpally village removed from the prohibition list. The land, identified as survey number 374, was marked as “ceiling land” when the Dharani portal was introduced in September 2020, which prevented the family from using it. Jayasudha claims she bought the land from Mettu Saidreddy 15 years ago.

The family has made several visits to the Ibrahimpatnam mandal office and the district collectorate and has also participated in the Prajavani grievance redressal programs. However, they have not seen any resolution to their issue. They have submitted all required documents, including the sale deed, a not-traced record from the RDO office, and an advocate’s search report, but the land is still on the prohibition list.

Jeevan explained that the tahsildar initially requested records from the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) to clarify the status of the ceiling land. When the records were unavailable, the family submitted a not-traced certificate. Despite these efforts, officials said that resolving the issue would take another month.

Jayaprakash, Jeevan’s brother, mentioned that the state government has instructed collectors to resolve Dharani issues within ten days, but we are being told to wait for another month.

Reports suggest that Ranga Reddy district has the highest number of unresolved Dharani complaints in the state, highlighting the challenges faced by many citizens.
