Ibrahimpatnam man exposed fake son plot

Fake Son

IBRAHIMPATNAM: An elderly couple from Seetarampet village in Ibrahimpatnam municipality of Ranga Reddy district were allegedly approached by a man claiming to be their son Srinivas Reddy and demanding ₹40 lakh.

Lakshma Reddy and his wife Ramulamma had been searching for their son for about 23 years after he left home following a quarrel when he was around 19.

Man claims to be missing son

According to the complaint, the man contacted the couple and claimed that he was their son Srinivas Reddy. The family was allegedly led to believe that he was the son they had been searching for.

The Telugu account says that Chintala Mohan Reddy of Banda Ravirala, who is related to Lakshma Reddy, and Pujari Fakiru Mohan Reddy of Peddagudem in Pochampally mandal had allegedly developed contact with Revalli Yadaiah, son of Swami and a resident of Chandranagar, Nakrekal.

Yadaiah allegedly posed as Srinivas Reddy after being given details about Lakshma Reddy’s family, including his daughters, sons-in-law and other relatives.

The elderly couple were later allegedly asked to come to the Cheruvugattu temple in Narkatpally. The account says the two men accompanied the couple.

The couple allegedly believed Yadaiah was their son after he was shown wearing a mala. Fakiru Mohan Reddy allegedly told Lakshma Reddy that ₹40 lakh would be required to remove the mala.

Family seeks DNA test

The family also allegedly planned to give ₹1 lakh after being told that the man’s daughter was unwell.

However, Lakshma Reddy’s daughters and sons-in-law reportedly suspected that the man was not Srinivas Reddy. They said their brother was about 43 years old, while the man posing as him appeared to be around 60.

When the family said they would take him for a DNA test, Yadaiah allegedly became frightened.

He then allegedly called Lakshma Reddy and his family, crying and using emotional appeals to convince them that he was their son.

With doubts mounting, Lakshma Reddy approached Ibrahimpatnam police station inspector M Mahender Reddy and sought an inquiry.

Lakshma Reddy told the inspector that a man had contacted him after 23 years, claimed to be his son and was demanding money. He requested police to verify whether the man was genuinely his son and ensure justice.

Police inquiry exposes alleged impersonation

Police summoned Yadaiah, 59, son of Swami, and questioned him. According to inspector M Mahender Reddy, the inquiry revealed that he was not Srinivas Reddy and was from Nakrekal.

The family members said criminal action should be taken against Yadaiah and Fakiru Mohan Reddy, whom they alleged had induced him to impersonate Srinivas Reddy.

Police registered a case against Yadaiah and said Fakiru Mohan Reddy was absconding.
