Residents of Ibrahim Bagh villas allege severe water shortage
HYDERABAD: A gated community of 30 homes in Ibrahim Bagh is facing a severe drinking water shortage, receiving only 7,000 litres per day instead of the minimum required 25,000 litres, according to a complaint to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
Following this complaint, resident and The Citizens’ Council General Secretary Shaik Aarif Mohammed made an urgent appeal to the HMWSSB Managing Director and Golconda Zone officials, highlighting the critical water shortage at Avni Lakeview Villas.
In support of this, the complaint states that in the latest supply cycle, water was provided for only 35 minutes, resulting in about 7,000 litres. For 30 households, the daily minimum needed is 25,000 litres, or 50,000 litres over two days, far above the current supply.
As a result, “The severe shortage is causing major hardship to all residents and affecting basic daily needs,” Shaik Aarif wrote in the complaint.
Residents further noted the water supply remains consistently below required levels in both normal and rainy seasons, indicating a systemic issue not just a seasonal problem.
The community provided video evidence of water pressure and supply duration to support their claims. Residents requested an immediate inspection of the supply line, pressure, and distribution system; corrective measures for adequate and fair water supply; and increased supply duration and pressure to meet minimum daily needs.
