IAS Association statement condemning MLA remarks against Karimnagar police commissioner

HYDERABAD: The Indian Administrative Service Association on Thursday formally recorded its outrage over what it described as defamatory and communal remarks made by Padi Kaushik Reddy, MLA, against the Commissioner of Police, Karimnagar, on January 29, 2026.

In a strongly worded statement, the Association said it was “deeply regrettable” that at a time when officers were discharging their constitutional responsibilities and maintaining public order, the legislator chose to make personal allegations based on religious identity.

The remarks, the Association said, included unfounded accusations of proselytisation against the senior police officer. It said such claims were factually incorrect and had no basis in evidence.

The Association said the statements amounted to a direct attack on the secular ethos of public service and the professional autonomy of the Indian Police Service, which functions under the Constitution and the rule of law.

It said public servants must be allowed to perform their duties without fear, prejudice or political intimidation, and warned that personal attacks rooted in religion risk eroding public confidence in institutions responsible for law enforcement.

The Association said it stood firmly by Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam, asserting that officers should not be singled out or vilified for performing official duties.

Calling for accountability, the Association demanded an immediate and unconditional public apology from the MLA. It also urged legislative authorities to take serious note of what it described as a breach of conduct unbecoming of an elected representative.

The statement said addressing such conduct was essential to uphold constitutional values, institutional integrity and mutual respect between elected representatives and the civil services.
