Hydroponic ganja worth ₹8.9 crore seized at Hyderabad airport; two held

HYDERABAD: Acting on specific intelligence, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Hyderabad Zonal Unit, along with Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Hyderabad Customs, intercepted two Indian passengers arriving from Bangkok at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
During a systematic search of their baggage, officials recovered packets containing a greenish, lumpy substance. Tests confirmed the substance as ganja (hydroponic weed).
The officials seized 25.45 kg of hydroponic weed, valued at ₹8.9 crore. The two passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the contraband.
