HYDRAA seizes Neeru’s showroom over fire safety violations
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has stepped up inspections across shops and commercial complexes in the city, focusing on fire safety compliance.
During an inspection on Thursday, officials sealed the Neeru’s showroom on Road No. 36 in Jubilee Hills after finding multiple violations. The building has three cellars and four floors, along with an unauthorised rooftop shed packed with garments.
Fire NOC missing, unsafe storage flagged
The HYDRAA commissioner took serious note of sales being conducted on two floors while garment manufacturing and large-scale storage were found on three upper floors, effectively turning them into warehouses. The showroom was operating without a fire no-objection certificate, officials said.
Inspectors also found that fire safety norms were not followed and fire extinguishers were either missing or inadequate. Citing multiple violations, the commissioner ordered the premises to be seized.
Officials from HYDRAA, the Fire Services Department, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the electricity department participated in the inspection. The premises were declared a fire-unsafe shop, warning boards were installed, fencing was put up and power supply was disconnected.
Nampally furniture showroom also sealed
In a separate action, a furniture showroom on Nampally Station Road was sealed following serious fire safety lapses. The move came days after a fire at Bachas Furniture showroom on the same road claimed five lives.
HYDRAA commissioner A V Ranganath took a serious view of shop owners on the stretch failing to take precautions even after the fatal incident. At Rahim and Mannan Estates’ Standard Furniture building, which has six floors and a cellar, officials found heavy furniture stock stored across all levels, including staircases blocked by material.
The building had no fire no-objection certificate, and no fire extinguishers were found on any of the six floors. After a complete inspection, the commissioner ordered the building to be sealed. Electricity supply was immediately cut and all business activity was stopped.
Public urged to report violations
The HYDRAA commissioner urged residents to report fire safety violations to the control room at 9000113667 or directly to 7207923085. Citizens were asked to share details of shops or commercial complexes being used as warehouses, or storing flammable material in cellars, along with location details, photos or videos via WhatsApp.
Complaints can also be posted on X (Twitter) through the handle Commissioner_HYDRAA, the commissioner said.
