HYDRAA removes illegal encroachment along Bulkapur drain in Manikonda

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) took action on Saturday, March 15, 2025, by removing an illegally constructed boundary wall and clearing an encroachment along the Bulkapur drain in Manikonda.
The construction of structures beneath high-tension power lines violated safety regulations, prompting local complaints. In response to these concerns, HYDRAA conducted an inspection on Thursday and confirmed the encroachment by a construction company near a banyan tree in Manikonda.
The company had obstructed the drain and built structures under the power lines. As a result, HYDRAA removed the boundary wall and cleared the area.
The Bulkapur drain is a crucial water channel that carries rainwater from Shankarpalli Bulkapur Lake to various localities, including Khanapur, Kokapet, Narsingi, Puppalaguda, Manikonda, Dargah, Shaikpet, Toli Chowki, Pochamma Basti, and Chintalabasti. Ultimately, it leads rainwater to Hussain Sagar Lake.
Local residents have urged HYDRAA to restore the drain, highlighting its importance in improving groundwater levels and serving as the primary route for rainwater to reach Hussain Sagar.
