HYDERABAD : Residents living around Suddakunta cheruvu in Boduppal received assurances from HYDRAA Commissioner A V Ranganath, who said HYDRAA stands for safety and that no one should fear the authority. He warned that strict action would be taken against officials or others creating panic in the name of Full Tank Level (FTL).

Residents allege misuse of FTL markings

During a field visit on Saturday, the Commissioner inspected the Suddakunta area in Medipally mandal following complaints from Dwarkanagar residents. Locals told him they had built houses more than 30 years ago, yet were being threatened that their homes fell within the FTL limits.

They said HMDA and municipal officials had marked their houses, fixed iron rods and painted numbers this July. “They are creating fear by saying our houses fall under the FTL. Officials even changed the original FTL boundaries,” a resident told the Commissioner. They recalled that a road had been laid between the lake and the houses in 1990, yet the road too was shown as FTL, causing further distress.

Commissioner orders removal of markings

Ranganath inspected the marking lines on several houses and said action would be recommended against HMDA and municipal officials who marked homes without following norms. He clarified that residents living near the lake need not worry.

He noted that a preliminary notification issued in 2014 recorded the lake area as 3.16 acres. “We will follow the draft notification, not the revised proposals prepared by officials,” he said, directing immediate removal of all markings from houses.

‘HYDRAA will not disturb existing homes’

The Commissioner reiterated that HYDRAA was created on July 19, 2024, and that houses built and occupied before that date would not be disturbed. He also acknowledged the residents’ claim that a road existed since 1990.

Ranganath warned of action against those creating confusion or issuing threats in HYDRAA’s name. He said restoration and development works would be taken up on the remaining lake land, including box drain construction. Following his orders, officials removed the markings on Saturday, bringing relief to local residents, who thanked the Commissioner.
