HYDERABAD: Residents from across the city raised concerns over sewage inflow into lakes, foul smell and mosquito breeding during a phone-in programme organised by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Saturday.

HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath spoke directly to 28 callers and reviewed their grievances. He advised setting up sewage treatment plants (STPs) to prevent untreated sewage from entering lakes.

Several callers urged HYDRAA to include their local lakes in the agency’s development list. They also sought measures to prevent encroachments of lakes and nalas to avert flooding.

A woman from Ramanthapur complained that constructions were under way within the full tank level (FTL) limits of the Ramannathapur small lake and urged authorities to halt the works immediately.

In Bachupally, a caller said around 3 acres in survey number 54 fall under the prohibited list and requested that the land be utilised for public purposes.

Colony representatives from Vajra Enclave in Jonnabanda, Old Alwal, sought removal of park encroachments and road obstructions. Residents of LB Nagar alleged that occupants of lower portions in Vambay houses were merging parking areas and building additional rooms, and demanded that the spaces be restored for common use.

Residents of HAL Colony sought development of Kharman Kunta, where sewage accumulation has led to mosquito breeding. In Hill County, Nizampet, locals said the Pattikunta lake, surrounded by roads on four sides, could be put to public use if developed and cleaned.

A complaint was also received about illegal parking on land allotted to the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation near Lower Tank Bund.

HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath said the complaints would be verified on the ground and appropriate action would follow.
