HYDRAA inspects three Tellapur lakes after TeNA plea

HYDERABAD: A day after the Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) submitted a petition to HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, authorities responded on Tuesday. Inspector Mallesh inspected three major lakes in the Tellapur region.
The inspection team visited Mellacheruvu, Vanam Cheruvu, and Chelikunta. These lakes face severe pollution, encroachment, and ecological damage because of missing sewage treatment plants and blocked feeder channels.
Additionally, HYDRAA officials recorded the Full Tank Level (FTL) extents of the three lakes: Mellacheruvu at 98 acres, 12 gunthas; Vanam Cheruvu at 75 acres, 14 gunthas; and Chelikunta at 41 acres, 7 gunthas.
Furthermore, Inspector Mallesh assured residents that officials will soon conduct a detailed survey of the lakes, including their boundaries and full tank levels. He said they will complete the survey and start fencing the lakes soon.
Meanwhile, the inspection happened after a high-level meeting on Monday, where a TeNA delegation met HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath. TeNA, representing over 70 gated communities near Tellapur, submitted a petition showing how a lack of drainage and untreated sewage turned the once-vibrant lakes into environmental hazards. The association urged HYDRAA to protect natural feeder nalas, install and monitor sewage treatment plants (STPs), and start long-term conservation and beautification projects.
TeNA President Ramana Eshwaragari said protecting lakes helps keep the environment healthy and secures future water resources for the next generations. Several local activists and former office-bearers joined HYDRAA Inspector Mallesh during the ground-level survey.
