Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) launched a major operation on August 18, 2024, targeting illegal constructions in the Rangareddy district.

The operation commenced early this morning and is currently targeting unauthorised business complexes in Gandipet, Khanapur, and Shankarpally.

Demolitions have been ongoing since early this morning, and authorities are facing opposition from property owners. Heated arguments erupted between the officials and the owners, who have been contesting the demolition orders. The operations are being conducted under heavy police protection to ensure the safety of the demolition teams.

According to reports, multiple locals have been detained for obstructing demolition activities. Today, HYDRAA plans to demolish five to ten illegally constructed buildings.

Among the notable targets is the Gandipet Cheruvu Full Tank Level (FTL), a large structure built in a designated buffer zone. Following citizen complaints, the HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath took decisive action, resulting in the demolition of several apartments that had been unlawfully constructed on the pond’s premises.

Since its formation, HYDRAA has successfully demolished 40 major buildings that encroached upon various water bodies. The operation continues to address illegal constructions across the suburbs of Hyderabad.

It was previously reported that the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished several buildings within the Full Tank Level (FTL) buffer zones of various ponds in Cyberabad on August 10, 2024 (Saturday).

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath warned real estate developers and builders against continuing illegal constructions within pond buffer zones across the tri-cities of Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad. He said that strict legal action, including demolition, will be taken against those who violate the rules. Moreover, government officials found complicit in these illegal activities will face severe consequences.

HYDRAA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath is advising potential homebuyers to be cautious when purchasing properties near ponds. He is urging people to verify if a property is located within the mandatory 30-meter buffer zone before making a purchase. To help the public, HYDRAA will soon publish detailed information about buffer zones on its website.

The Commissioner also appealed to citizens and voluntary organisations to report any ongoing illegal constructions within pond buffer zones to HYDRAA authorities.
