Hyderabad residents rally to defend Hydraa’s civic works

HYDERABAD: Residents from various colonies and bastis across the city have come forward to counter what they describe as deliberate misinformation against Hydraa. Locals from low- and middle-income communities organised rallies praising the agency for its civic works and environmental efforts.
Carrying placards and shouting “Hydraa Zindabad”, residents highlighted how the agency’s initiatives had improved their living conditions. On Tuesday, walkers near Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet praised Hydraa’s services, while on Wednesday, about 15 colonies joined a rally at the Marri tree junction in Manikonda.
Participants displayed placards claiming Hydraa had saved parks worth over ₹1,000 crore in Manikonda municipality, which they described as “the lungs of the city”. Residents from Neknampur village and Tirumala Hills joined in, while at Prashanthi Hills in Khajaguda, citizens planted saplings in parks preserved by Hydraa.
In Kondapur’s Raghavendra Colony and the Osmania University Professors’ Colony, residents held rallies acknowledging Hydraa for protecting 4,300 square yards meant for public use. They also organised a felicitation event for safeguarding a 2,000 square yard park in the area.
Locals shouted slogans such as “Hydraa means justice for lakhs” and “Without Hydraa, the city would have faced floods”. They credited the agency for removing silt from stormwater drains, ensuring smooth water flow during heavy rains, and preventing flooding in several parts of the city. Many also said Hydraa’s efforts to protect open spaces and parks had improved air quality and public health.
Speakers criticised what they called “self-serving propaganda” by a few individuals, urging citizens not to fall for it. Referring to recent claims in Hafeez Baba Nagar, Chandrayangutta, residents clarified that Hydraa had not undertaken any demolitions there and that compensation had already been paid to those affected by road widening and nala works handled by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
They pointed out that Hydraa’s work was non-political and focused on resolving long pending civic issues in a matter of hours or days. “Hydraa has proved that those who try to encroach public property for profit cannot succeed. The city stands with Hydraa,” one participant said.
