Meet the HYDRAA programme on Jan 6, Commissioner to take complaints

News in short:
HYDRAA, the agency responsible for disaster response and asset protection in Hyderabad, will hold a public grievances redressal programme on January 6th. This program, similar to the GHMC's Prajavani, will allow residents to directly meet HYDRAA officials and voice their concerns, particularly regarding encroachments of water bodies. The agency aims to resolve these complaints within 10 days. In the future, HYDRAA plans to establish its own police station, allowing for direct FIR registration and potentially weekly grievance redressal programs. This initiative follows HYDRAA's successful efforts in 2024, which involved reclaiming 200 acres of encroached land and addressing over 5,800 encroachment complaints.

Hyderabad: Much on the lines of GHMC’s Prajavani public grievances redressal programme, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has decided to hear people’s grievances directly from them.

The Prajavani-like programme will be held at the agency’s headquarters, Buddha Bhavan, on January 6, Monday. HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath and other officials would accept public grievances between 10:30 am and 2:00 pm.

Earlier, complainants would dispatch their encroachment-related grievances to the officials. Now, they can directly meet the competent authorities and put across their problems. The agency will reportedly prioritize the complaints related to encroachment of water bodies such as ponds, lakes and drains and will try to resolve the public issues within 10 days.

The state government is expected to pave a path for setting up a dedicated HYDRAA police station in Hyderabad. It will allow the agency to directly register First Information Reports (FIRs), eliminating the need for residents to visit other police stations to file complaints. Once the police station is set up, HYDRAA will likely hold a public grievances redressal programme every week.

During the recent annual press meet, Commissioner AV Ranganath said HYDRAA made significant progress in 2024 as it reclaimed 200 acres of encroached lands of water bodies in the region covering Hyderabad, Medchal, Ranga Reddy and Sangareddy districts or Hyderabad Metropolitan Region (HMR). He said the officials have also addressed over 5,800 complaints related to the encroachment and disappearance of lakes

Sharing the achievements, he said the agency took action against eight parks, 12 lakes and four government lands. He stated that the officials have also worked on fixing Full Tank Level (FTL) markers of lakes and demarcated Nala boundaries. 1,025 water bodies have been identified using advanced tools including satellite images, topographical maps and aerial surveys, the Commissioner told reporters.
